When I reached 7,000 miles on my 2006 9-3 SC, I changed my oil myself because I wanted to get the engine break-in stuff out early, (had wanted to do it at 5,000 miles but I didn't have time). The dealer let me push out my free oil change to 11,000 miles in November of 2006. Now that I'm approaching 20,000 miles and 45% oil life remaining on the trip computer, the dealer is saying that I have to wait until Nov., 2007 because that is 12 months after the first free one. This is because the 12 months would elapse before my oil life indicator got down to 5% or so. It has been 9 1/2 months and 9,000+ miles since my last oil change and I want to change it, but then I don't want to get cheated out of the next free oil change . Shouldn't I be able to get the free oil change 9,000 or 10,000 miles after my last one? This would put me at 20,000 or 21,000 miles on the odometer. I'm currently at 20,000 miles so the timing would be perfect.

I'm going to attend the track day event for the SOC next Thursday and I wanted to have the oil changed before it. I don't mind doing one myself, but at $30+ for oil/filter plus my own labor, I'm a little hesitant to do so if I can't get it free.

It seems like the service department is talking from both sides of their mouth.
- on one hand, she says I get the free oil change at the earlier of 12 months or oil indicator down to 0%
- on the other hand, the way the prior service guy talked, he said I had to bring it in at the earlier of 11,000 miles or 12 months since the last oil change

So what supercedes what?
- 12 months since the prior oil change
- 10,000 miles (+/- 1,000 miles) since the prior oil change
- Oil monitor at 5% or so

Any clarification would be appreciated,
Atul
