I have a 2005 9-3 linear, purchased new, and now with about 54K miles (last oil change at 49K). I recently had it certified, thank goodness, so my car is now covered till 100K miles.

Last night, as I was pulling up to my driveway, my temperature gauge shot upwards and the SID displayed a red message alerting me of the hot engine and to safely pull the car over and let it idle. I put the car in park and let it idle for about 2 mins. The temperature didn't go down. I turned off the car for about 5 mins and restarted: the SID displays that 'CHECKS OK,' and the temperature is fine. And after driving up and down the driveway (really, about 30 seconds), the temperature gauge went up and the SID alert about the hot engine came on again. Throughout all this the check engine light didn't come on the dash (with the gauges). All fluids are okay.

My boyfriend, who is no mechanic, thinks it could be the waterpump or thermostat. I had the car towed to my local Saab dealer. They're going to check into it and comp me a loaner for a couple of days, but I wanted to find out if anyone has had any similar experiences?
