My battery is 2.5 years old. I was thinking of trying to last the winter and changing it next summer when it will be approaching 3.5 years old. Based on the responses so far, I don't think I will try to last yet another winter and reach 4.5 years.
My classic 900's original battery lasted slightly more than 5 years. However, the classic 900 didn't put so many demands on the battery. Subsequent batteries didn't last as long possibly because storage conditions weren't too good at the store. I tried to look at the dating and they were always a few months old (not too long, not too short either). My classic 900's was built in mid-March and I was driving it by mid-May.
