Depends on your point of reference. It's called a sport sedan and sporty isn't the same thing as quiet and Saab isn't known for building quite cars.
What kinda' noise? As far as engine noise the turbo makes it pretty quiet because it takes away all the intake roar at large throttle openings. Road noise, noise from tires and the drumming of the chassis over bumps and less than smooth pavement I would say the Saab is average at best. Wind noise is a strong point, good door seals and such an air leak around the doors or windows can contribute to a noisy feeling. Some times a sunroof left a little askew can make a big difference for example. I've also seen unsealed holes in the firewall introduce a fair amount of noise.
Listen very critically for location and sound and note speeds, loads, gears, throttle openings, so you can make it perform for the service advisor. The biggest PITA is "no problem found" when the service guys can't make it do what it supposed to.
People have found that it takes a little diligence with a 9-3SS to keep the squeaks and rattles out of the doors and headliner.
