Since I'll be moving and might only be able to keep one car, I'm contemplating trading (or selling) my 2006 9-3 SC 2.0 T Manual for an automatic for family/friends to drive while they visit me in Minneapolis.

So I test drove an '08 and I must say I was impressed. Gone are the throttle delay and turbo lag that my '04 automatic 2.0 t had. Also, the ride and handling is amazing, much better dampening without any apparent impact on handling. I was getting 35 mpg, (indicated), on the highway which is great. The steering effort seemed a little higher which is good, (although I'm not sure they changed anything). It is appreciably quieter, especially at idle and I got used to the new dashboard with SID under the gages. The Black Tie radio has a better user interface and so does the heating and ventilation controls. The sound from the stereo was quite good, (even with XM radio), considering that it was the base system

It doesn't look as Saab-unique inside anymore and I don't like the thick black rim around the tail-lights. I also can't stand the 14-spoke 16" wheels. Could I swap in my 17"ers without affecting the tire pressure monitoring system? The new LED DRL's look cool, much better than the Audi "Pearl Necklace" DRL's that just came out.

I have to run some numbers, and although it never makes sense financially to buy a new car, since I bought my current car at an extreme discount due to a buyout voucher, and since the new powertrain warranty is better, I'm considering a lease. On the other hand, I'm waiting for a diesel or mild hybrid Saab, but it might be a long time, if ever.
