Fried the coil?

Patrice,
You say the ignition was in "on" position. How long was it in the ON position before you started the car?
On vehicles I am familiar with (mostly older technology but may still apply here), sitting with the ignition ON without running the engine can fry the ignition coil. A fried coil would lead to a failure to start the engine. If this were the case, the fix would be to replace the coil (probably not too expensive, I'm guessing a few hundred bucks but you never know which parts they decide to gouge you on). A mechanic can easily check if the coil is bad.
The electronics should work with the key in the ignition but not turned to ON (this would be how one would listen to the radio without presumably frying the coil).
