Hmmmm...No sport mode per se.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Fri, 4 Apr 2008 18:03:16 In Reply to: Sport mode in '08 93 SS auto, Amamba, Fri, 4 Apr 2008 17:22:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 9-3SS doesn't have a sport mode button like a 9-5 or an OG9-3/NG900. The 9-3SS does have a slap shifter, that place to push the shifter over(to the left?) that holds what ever gear the car is in. When you push it over into the manual shifting mode you nudge the shifter forward to shift up and you nudge it back to downshift.
So yes you would get a lot of revs with the shifter over in the manual shift gate, unless you nudged it forward into the next gear.
Now a 9-5 or OG9-3 has an actual sport mode button that reprograms the tranny for higher rev upshifts and much quicker part throttle downshifts and most of us drive in sport mode all the time. The 9-3SS doesn't have a selectable sport mode button. Instead the transmission learns your driving style so if you have a heavy foot the upshifts are moved up and the downshifts are reachable more easily with less throttle, but the tranny "learns" that, you can't tell it to do it with a button.
I do really like the 9-3SS slap shifter, it works very well at allowing me to control the shifts to my taste, but without the clutch pedal. I for one don't like steering wheel paddles because my shift brain is wired to my arm, not my fingers or thumbs.
Sorry no sport mode though, other than the one the tranny learns by you driving aggessively.
