I know they share a frame and a transmission but I think the comparisons probably end there. I haven't driven a G6 but I have driven Grand Am's in the past and its just another boring, poor handling and cheaply constructed american car designed to appeal to young drivers. While the 9-3 has its share of shortcomings I'm just going to guess that the interior and the handling as well as some of the engine components are a step up from the G6. I think the price (at least of the 2.0T with some of the usual discounts) make the car a good deal in relation to competitors but I don't think the G6 is in the same ballpark (i.e., not really a competitor). But don't listen to me, just test drive both cars and buy the one you like the most.
