I believe the message that I get is "Right brakelight failure". Is it possible that this is a also what yours reads, as there are no front brakelights, so why would it say "rear"?
Anyways, mine is a 2006 9-3 2.0T SC. The brakelights are LED's and everytime I've checked, eaxh LED seems to be illuminating. According to the WIS, this message should only appear if several LED's fail. Also, I only have this issue on my car when the temperature drops below about 40°F, and then I typically will get this error about twice a day. My guess is that's there's a poor connection somewhere, perhaps in the lamp assembly itself, that may cause a brief open circuit and trigger the fault.
I started getting this error when the car was new, however, it was far less frequent then.I haven't bothered to have this looked at as I can just hear the service manager telling me "We can't reproduce the fault" after taking time off from work and driving 50 miles, so I've just been putting up with it.
