"Negatives I see, besides the auto tranny, are gas prices and future repair bills, not to mention depreciation."
Won't you get those same negative with any car? Gas prices will affect any car you drive; at least the Saab gets decent mileage (mid-to-upper 20's in the city and 31-ish on the freeway). Repair bills will likely be higher with the Saab than say a Honda, but they are certainly in line with other European cars. Just make sure you have a good indy or a decent dealer nearby.
And finally, depreciation happens to any car you buy. If it's a big concern get a bus pass instead. In today's current economic climate you will likely be able to negotiate that purchase price lower than the $16k they are asking. It's not at a Saab dealer so unless they know Saabs, they likely want it off their lot. It's not CPO'ed so you could beat them up about that as well. And then you could always look at online classifieds to see what other 2004 Aeros are going for. Above all, it's your money and although they have the final say as to what they will sell the car for, you have the option of buying another 9-3 for sale down the road.
