Not so fast, your numbers are some what off. I bought my 2004 arc vert in 2006 for 16k. Only had to pay the Cal tax on that amount. Lets say I have 17k total in the car. Great car just like new. New 2004 arc vert would cost (let me fudge just like you)with all dealers prep and cal tax ect would put the car at about 47k. I drive the car for 4 years and resell for 10k. Two things, I don't tie up a lot of my money which is still working for me, and I get 4 years for about 7k in a very find car. No matter how you try to run the numbers, Buying used is a much much much better deal than new.
