I know that this for an older 9-3 & I've posted the message there as well. However, no one there had any ideas so I'm trying here. Your thoughts on this problem are arrpeciated.
I have a 1999 9-3 convertible & the radio is possessed by demons. Here's the story:
1) New battery was installed on Tuesday evening, when reconnected the positive terminal was attached first.
2) The next morning (Wednesday), while driving to work, the radio suddenly went off tune - it sounded as if it was tuned to a frequency between stations. It had been on a FM preset & I was using the FM1 band.
3) Now the radio controls did not work - the tunner was not functional, the presets didn't work, the volume could not be changed, the band could not be changed.
4) When I got to work I shut the car off but the radio continued to play. The key was removed - the radio continued. In order to turn off the radio I disconnected the positive terminal of the battery.
5) The positive terminal was re-attached & the radio worked fine. All controls were operational. The car was fine & the radio worked without issue that evening on the way home.
6) Thursday morning, while driving to work, the sequence of events was repeated & the conditions were the same - radio tuned itself to a frequency bewteen stations, the controls did not work, and the radio would not turn off when the ignition key was turned off & removed. Once again I disconnected the positive terminal in order to shut off the radio. When the terminal was re-attached, the radio was fine once again. The radio was OK for the evening ride home.
7) So, my question is - what's happening here? Is there a sequence that I failed to follow when installing the battery that's caused these gremlins to crop up? There were no problems until I installed the new battery. What's the solution? Thank you for your suggestions.
