I live in West Wales (in the UK) and have a SAAB 93 Vector (2002). Recently the radio stopped working and have had problems with the battery running down.

I have been told by an auto electrician that the radio is draining the battery and after speaking with a main SAAB dealer they stated that in 9 out of 10 cases this will be a faulty amp. This dealer however will not explain how to test whether it is the amp or not and insist that I would have to take it to them to test. This is a 150 mile round trip and as I would have to leave it this would make it a 450 mile round trip as I would have to take another car to drop it off and pick it up!!

The other option is to purchase a replacement amp and if this solves the problem then great but is it doesn't then it I will have spent £600 (yes £600 for the replacement amp from the SAAB spares dept)for an ornament as it will be no good for anything else.

Sorry to rant but I am very frustrated as £600 is probably about a fifth of the value of the whole car!! Is there anyway that the auto electricians can at least test the system so that that we can establish whether indeed it is the amp that is faulty.
