My turn for '06 washer trouble... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 12:51:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Temps have dropped to near zero for the past two days. My wife's '06SC is parked indoors in our attached garage, so when she returned from an appointment today saying she had no washer solution (i.e. washers not working) I was perplexed. I typically keep all the washer bottles topped off regularly.
I opened the cover of the solution jug and saw no cleanser, so I assumed maybe she had emtied the bottle. But this would be odd since the car gets driven only 10K per year and it was serviced by the Dealer only 2 months ago and they always top off the jug too.
I added solution, but the jug was full other than the visible neck. I checked all fuses for the washer pumps and they are fine, yet none of the three operate (windshiled, rear hatch, headlamps)
On the "SWAG" that the Dealer placed non-winterized washer solution in the car and the bitter cold temps of her morning drive had caused the solution to freeze/crystalize, I did the following.
I parked the car in the garage with a warm engine and let it sit for an hour or so. I used a plunbing snake to verify the solutiton had returned to liquid state. I then siphoned off nearly a pint of solution using my garage turkey baster, and replaced it with isopropyl alcohol.
My wife is out again running some errands, so I will check the washer system operation on her return.
Any other ideas?
