My service appointment is tomorrow so I was reading the Owner's Manual tonight to see if it gave any indication what may be causing the Time For Service message on our 2006 9-3SC. In the SID section of the Manual it described two additional Service Messages that I had not seen before; "Service Type", and "Service Reset".

I went out to the car, scrolled thru the SID menu, and these options are now available on the SID!!

Service Type states our 9-3SC requires an Intermediate Service, although one was performed less than a year ago and the car only has 24,000 miles. Two Intermediate Services necesssary in under 24K?

Apparently the SID only displays the Service Type and Service Reset options when the on-board systems determine Time For Service is due. Service Information (days until next oil change and percent oil life) is always available.

Now I know how to reset the Service Indicator when my 3 Years/36,000 mile Free Service expires in June! I plan to continue changing the oil at 50% oil life or 180 days, which ever comes first. although I will have to wait until 0 days or 0% oil life before the Service Reset option will appear.
