I experienced the parking brake problem on my 2003 93 that was mostly seen early in the 93 SS series beginning in 2003. The problem involves not being able to release the parking brake handle – it gets stuck in the engaged position. I temporarily solved the problem by backing off the adjuster at the center console, disassembling the handle and pulling on the release wire. The dealer service shop says that the fix is to replace the entire parking brake assembly, which includes the rear aluminum frame that the center console rests on. I will check again if they might cover it as a customer satisfaction “no cost” replacement but I expect not. There is a 2007 93 convertible at a local salvage yard that I could get parts from. My car is a manual trans; don’t know about the ’07 yet. Questions: Is the parking brake assembly interchangable since 2003? Same for auto and manual transmission cars and convertibles? Any major problems or lessons learned in replacing this assembly? Has anyone had a replacement out of warranty at no cost?
