I can't speak on issues of the ARC, but I do have a 2003 9-3 Linear 5 speed manual with suspension package so I am assuming the main differance is turbo output. The previous posts are accurate. The 2003's did sport a lot of minor issues which is typical since that was the first year of the redesign. I bought the car new and I was pretty miserable with it the first 50k (warrenty of coarse). The good thing is it was only minor issues such as sunroof sensor sensitivity and minor electrical issues. The rear brakes did hang a bit but the dealer was excellent in fixing all of my problems and since 50k the car has given me little problems except a gas tank sensor and window regulator. The car now has 112k and still drives great and I am very satisfied with the car. If I were buying the car out of warrenty I would seriously consider looking for at least a 2005 or newer. The only serious concern was echoed to you with the transmission coolant contamination issue. It was a problem with the coupler mixing coolant fluid with trammy fluid in the radiator. This problem will ruin the transmission. I would not even consider at 2003 or 2004 until I was certian that the new coupler had been installed. Other than that, the cars are great. Good luck.
