I've never seen data like that before or since. There was also a comparison of filtering efficiency using a modified version of the standard SAE/ASTM test. It showed the AC Ultraguard with far and away the best efficiency. I am working through my "lifetime supply" of UPFL 400A and UPFL53 filters.
Fram has begun selling a filter with wire-backed synthetic medium. Whether it's the same or just "looks the same" is impossible to tell.
You have correctly observed that the most important data - filtering efficiency and pressure drop at low temperatures, is almost impossible to obtain.
FWIW, I wrote to someone at "Champion", who makes AC and other filters, as well as WalMart's house brand. He said that WalMart filters are made to very high standards and are an excellent value - a premium filter at a low price point. I have no way of verifying this.
