In terms of luxury and quality of interior materials, ease of maintenance, fuel economy, rear seat accomodations and ride, the 9-5 is the clear choice, especially if you are able to find one with "natural leather". In terms of handling, powertrain smoothness, especially at idle, being generally up-to-date, it's the 9-3. Style is in the eye of the beholder, but there are few indeed who prefer the "Dane Edna" glasses on the front of the 9-5. In that regard, white seems to minimize the visual insult on the '06-'08 9-5s. For the end of the road '09, the headlight trim is matte chrome, which blends well with the shades of silver.
Depending on your long term interests, it's been hinted that '09 is the end of the line for the V-6 in 9-3s (assuming that Saab goes forward). That makes the 9-3 Aero, and especially the Turbo X, somewhat unique. The Turbo X might even become a classic, especially if Saab bites the dust.
IMO. (fwiw, I own a 9-5 Combi and a 9-3 CV.
