Glad to hear the car did it's job. I'm not too sure on pricing but remember the insurance company needs to make you whole. In other words, compensate you enough that you can be in a comparable car that you had prior to the accident.
To get a decent settlement, I would take pricing from the three main on-line guides: ed munds, Kelly Blue Book (kb b.com), and na da.org. Use retail prices, not private or trade-in. Then I would also look at the classifieds here on Saabnet, auto trader, and car s.com looking for cars of the same year, miles, and options. Collect this information and use it to determine the proper replacement value of your car. If they disagree ask them to prove to you that you can get a comparable car for $15k - have them show you three cars that are similar to the wrecked Saab that you can go out and buy today for $15k (or whatever they claim it's worth)
Another thing to remember is time is of the essence. Another thing that will make them want to resolve this quickly is to get a rental car that is billed directly yo them (enterprise). Even if you don't need one, get one. They will want to settle the claim sooner if they know it's costing them $30-40 a day.
As far as replacements are concerned, overall, I like the CC. I'm not a fan of the current regular Passat but I like the CC. The A4 is nice, but it gets pricey very quickly. I like the new Jetta, especially in diesel form. On the other end of the spectrum, if live in an area where RWD wouldn't be a problem, I really like the Pontiac G8 - lots of good cheap fun there.
Best of luck with resolving the insurance claim!
