Bottom line is that the springs should not be breaking at all.. saltbelt car or not. I had this happen on a '95 Ford Windstar. I had to wait three weeks for a replacement front spring. On the plus side my money was refunded by Ford when they came out with a recall for the problem. In that case it was a manufacturing defect not corrosion from salty roads..
