That was one model in the entire corporation. The platform for the entire vehicle was new. My gut feeling is that GM let the Swede design team go nuts on pretty much whatever they wanted. Afterwards GM cherry picked the platform for the best pieces. Turbo engines in American cars, AWD, but NOT the radio, in fact later they switched to the 'corporate' radio which is easier to upgrade.
That said, the trunk is plenty big enough for a subwoofer and small amps. Ever try upgrading a stereo in an old Volvo? Count your blessings! Oh and by the way, there are factory power leads for the stock amplifiers on the drivers side in the tirewell. I think you can tap in to those if you don't want to run your own power leads. they drive the rear 6x9's and shelf speakers.
I hope the new company does well, but it will be tough!
