One one hand, no, the Valvoline product does NOT meet the GM spec necessary to allow one to use the on board oil monitoring program. On the other hand, starting in 2006, they dialed back on the software so it now triggers the "change oil now" light at one year or 10,000 miles, whatever comes first. Before, you could sometimes approach 15,000 miles before the car asked for an oil change. Plus, Valvoline will warrant the engine for a gazillion miles if you follow the program and use exclusively their synthetic.
What to do? Well to be safe, I'd change it again at 50% oil life remaining and then after that change insist on Mobil 1 0W40, Castrol 0W30, or whatever boutique oil you find that meets the GM LL 025A/025B spec.
Note that GM will be licensing a new oil beginning with the 2011 product introductions - called "dexoil" or something like that, and they will at the same time ratchet up the specs well beyond current API and ILSAC levels. If they ratchet it up to the level of LL 025 (a spec they used only in Europe), there may be a lot more choice of oils suitable for 9-3SSs.
