The owners manual for the 2005 9-3 Aero recommends a fully synthetic oil in the vicosity range of 0W-30, 5W-30, or 0W-40 that meets the requirements of GM-LL-A-025. The GM-LL-A-025 is the GM standard for longlife oils.
Personally, I use Mobil 1 0W-40 in both my SAABs as it meets my needs and is easy to find. I change the oil every 5,000-miles, which is once a year for the 9-3 and twice a year for the NG900.
