The cars that we see that are the worst are the 2003 and 2004 models. I have a feeling that how acidic your skin is has a bit to do with it also.
My brother and I both play brass musical instruments, and he had eaten clear through the lacquer (like a clear coat) on both his horns within a year or two of owning them, and even through the nickel-silver plating on one of his trumpets within a few years. My trombones all still look brand new where the touch points are.
The leather wrap on his 9000 steering wheel looked new when we bought the car 5 years ago, now is deeply pitted where the grips around the horn buttons are.
He must be one of those Aliens.
