I'm no mechanic, but I believe the turbo engines are the same basic engine that's been used in Saabs for many years. My first Saab was a 1987 9000 turbo with 185HP, and by the book the oil change interval was 7500 miles. And that was pretty much before synthetic oil hit the market. There was a free oil change at 30 days or 1000 miles as I recall. I have a brand new 9-3. I will change the synthetic oil at 6 months - I won't have 5K miles by 6 months - with Mobil 1 0-40W even though I probably could go to 1 year.
