If buying new, check on the current deal given the new owner. My 2008 came with 3 years service and 100K powertrain warranty, so I haven't spent a dime (other than an unnecessary break in oil change, which was my choice, based on old habits). If you're buying used or out of warranty and in an area with independent mechanics, my perception is that Saasb indies are probably pretty good. Subjectively, and with no data, I'd think a Saab might be cheaper than a Bimmer, given that old generation Saabs were designed to be repaired and the rap on new generation Saabs is that there were too-GM and not upgraded enough. Maybe a GM-new gen 900 with a shoehorned V-6 circa mid-1990s might be hard to repair, but the designed-for V-6s in the hyphenated models, probably not. There's got to be plenty of room to work on a straight 4. I've had Saabs since 1981.
