I don't like Ally, and hope to never do business with them again. This sounds like just another slimy method to make more money. I've never seen this in any previous lease (I've leased 6 cars from 4 finance cos, but none recently).
Why I think Ally is scum: 3 years ago, I turned in my '05 9-5 3 mos early to lease an '08 9-3 as part of a GM lease "pull ahead" program. 2.5 years later, Ally (through their bad credit subsidiary Novell) sends a collection agency after me for an amount equal to 3 payments on the 9-5.
The collection agency offered to "settle" with me for ~1/2 of what they said I "owe" - they claimed if I didn't accept their settlement right then and there, they'd screw my credit and collect the full amount. I said "this is bs, prove to me that I owe you anything!". They continued to call a couple times a day, and tried to trick my wife into accepting the "settlement". I finally studied up on my rights and sent them a letter telling them to stop it (which, by law, they must). I had to send them another letter disputing this claim and demanding an itemized account of what was owed. This is how they treat a 3 time customer who has never been late on a single payment.
They never could prove that I owed them anything (because I didn't), and finally went away (after they sent a few more threatening letters, and a couple more calls), and didn't screw my credit (at least on the one report I've checked since). However, talk about a bad taste - especially where they tried to trick my wife - told her she would be doing the "right thing" by saving me a lot of cash.
I was already planning to not lease my next vehicle (the '08 lease is done in March)... if Ally is doing the Saab leasing, it will be that much easier... although I have heard rumors of them practically giving away 9-5s so I could be suckered again if I really like the new 9-5...
Call them Ally or GMAC, it's just another corrupt bank.
