As Car & Driver noted in their test drive a couple of years ago the XWD is excellent and the handling of the XWD equipped Aero is far better than the FWD car in any conditions. The additional 25 HP over the FWD Aero is a plus as well. There are fewer XWD 2008's around as they weren't produced until more than half way through the model year. I have an '08 Aero XWD Combi and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. The only way to really tell the difference is to drive both cars. 2009 was the last year of the V6 turbo availability in the 9-3 Aero and I believe the XWD system also became available on the 4-cylinder model.
