I purchased my ’09 9-3 2.0T Sport Combi, auto tranny, polar white, one year ago at the peak of the GM liquidation and just before the Spyker acquisition of Saab. It came equipped with the SC1 package which included interior wood trim accents, Aero 5-spoke wheels, Bluetooth, comfort package, etc. This Saab replaced my ’99 9-5 Sport Combi. For personal esthetics, I added the sport exhaust with the matching rear black skirt panel. It was a little pricey but it was the look I wanted for my Combi. I also added a set of fog lamps (dealer installed at purchase time so as to be covered under the 4 year/50K warranty). Sticker price was $36,300 and I got it for $25,300 (not including the extras I put on).
To date I have accumulated 21K miles on the odometer. Oil changes have been with Mobil-1 0W/40 every 5K. Even though I get a freebie through the dealer every 10K, I supply my own oil because the dealer uses Mobil-1 5W/30. The factory manual states several grade options that are appropriate for the 2.0L T but the
Mobil-1 website recommends only 0W/40.
As far as warranty repairs are concerned there has been only one and that was the replacement of the OnStar module because of a problem with bluetooth phone pairing. Other than that, no other issues.
Typical gas mileage is 25-26 mpg overall with 31-32mpg on strictly highway travels. It doesn’t matter what grade I use, either 89 octane or 93 octane. I get the same numbers so I’m sticking with 89 octane as a matter of economics.
Ergonomically this car is no 9-5 when it comes to room, especially when getting in and out. I’ve learned to adapt to it however. Cargo space is adequate and I like the roof rack system for carrying my bike. The radio is the standard 7-speaker system. I wish it were the Bose system. I’m looking into a Kenwood subwoofer that fits underneath the passenger seat to help with the lack of lower bass punch.
Funfactor,… this car is a blast to drive! However, when I retire in 3-5 years time, I plan on trading/selling it for a certified new generation 9-5 Sport Combi.
Happy Saabing everyone!
