I would not get too woried. I can not see how it is possible for software to cause premature failure of mechnaical items. I think the best that a programer could do is encode an increase in line voltages to certain components (sensors, bulbs) at a ceratin time to help them burn out quickly. It would likely require a increase in engineering develpoment time and cost to put these planned obsolescence features into an outomobile, resulting in either higher sales prices &reduced sales, or reduced profit margin. I can't imagine a auto company having such a strategy company so that they sell some spare parts in 4-6 years, and get a reputation for poor long term durability.
