Brake Master Cylinder Failure? Posted by Chadwick [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hey everyone,
Have a customers car in with an intermittent soft brake pedal. Attempting to diagnose before throwing parts at it.
Has anyone observed a brake master cylinder failure on a 9-3ss? The car in question is an 05 A/T 2.0t w/ 55kmi.
Pedal typically functions fine but intermittently will sink all the way to the floor upon braking, but the calipers still have plenty of grab. I've driven many 9-3SS's and am familiar with their slightly softer pedal feel, but never have seen this intermittent issue before. If the pedal is pumped the pedal firmness will come back slightly.
Pads are about 75% all around
Checked the booster vac line that runs from the intake manifold up to the cyl head vac pump then to the booster and it seemed fine and in tact. Vac pump seems to be functioning fine as well. No loss of airmass/vacuum when the pedal is depressed or let up so I don't think there's anything wrong with the booster diaphragm.
Fluid is dirty, and was going to be replenished at the 60k.
Just seems like a classic master cylinder failure... was wondering if anyone else had observed this.
Best,
-Chad
