Many have done this. It's called "de-badging." If it's warm enough outside (60 degrees or higher), you can take some dental floss and "cut" the adhesive behind the badge. Or use a hair dryer/heat gun if it's not warm enough.
But yes it is safe to pull them off. If you're not patient enough you may damage the badges, but you certainly won't hurt the paint.
Clean up the residue afterward with a microfiber towel and some window cleaner.
