I always wondered how manufacturers taught car salesman about the salient features of new models - now I know. Thanks for sharing this gem.
An old neighbor of mine was a Saab nut that has been purchasing them since the 1960s. In the early 1970s or so he had the opportunity to pick up his new Saab at the factory in Sweden. The Saab representative was explaining to him the car's features and explaining how the manual transmission works. This drove my neighbor nuts since he already knew how to drive and was dying to simply jump in his new car and drive away. Then the Saab representative told him a joke that was really stiff and unfunny. At this point my neighbor demanded to know why his time was being wasted like this when all he wanted was the keys and the opportunity to leave. The Saab representative told him he was required to tell this joke to all new customers so he was just doing as he was told. Odd.
