Springs Turning on Strut

Greetings All-
05 9-3 Aero
I have a problem the someone else mentioned on this board a while back, but didn't suggest a resolution. I have a grinding/popping noise when turning the wheel at slow speeds or while stopped. I am pretty certain it is the springs turning on the strut. I had this addressed while the car was under warranty last year but unfortunately it went off warranty now. Can this be a DIY project?
Thanks in advance,
Jon
