I have a 2004 9-3SS with 103K miles. Its been very reliable up to today, been through many road trips and always ran like a champ.

Last night i was on the highway heading up the summit to the mountains and as the road/hill got steep, i suddenly felt a lack of power. I would have my foot all the way down on the gas pedal, but there was no response, and the car would gradually slow down. I looked at the turbo gauge and it wasn't boosting all the way like it usually does. It was about 3/4 of the way to the right though usually when I am doing this drive and I am in 5th gear, It would jump to the end and give me a good power boost. I would be going like 75-80 and at the hills, it would lose speed to like 55. The engine wouldnt rev up at all when the pedal was all the way down.

I ended up having to shift down into 4th and floor it and try to make it up the hill, which it did. But even in 4th gear, it was only boosting 3/4 of the way, and wasnt giving me the power I get.
When the road grade got less steep/it flattened out, the car would do well in terms of power and acceleration.

Here is what changed, dont know if it can have anything to do with it. I had 3 other people in the car and the car was loaded with other stuff (Usually I do this drive alone or with 1 other person). Also, before going, I filled the tank all the way up with Shell 91 grade supreme. I usually only put Chevron 91 grade supreme, but Shell is my back up. The car is running on BMW Long Life Full-Synthetic motor oil.

I drove it today (the next morning) and it was boosting better, but I cant fully tell because it's flat in Reno and I havent found a long hill to test it on.

What could this be? Why did it happen? What should I do or check.
