Optima battery logistical issue

Greetings everyone,
I searched past threads and didn't find the topic on point so I hope I am not being redundant. As the title implies, I recently purchased a new battery, the old diehard replacement was going to be 140 so they gave me a deal, I guess, on a new optima battery for 160 (red top 720 cca). The only concern I have is as follows: the battery is not as long as my previous battery but I noticed Saab foresaw this by adding the second battery clamp hole further up in the box. My only issue is I cannot move the battery up to the second hole because the negative battery cable is not long enough. The terminal on the battery is on the lower end so the shape is right. Any suggestions from others who have encountered this same problem? As of now, the battery is hooked up and the car is running fine (actually the exhaust smells a little rich but I'll minuet that for later).
Basically, the battery has two inches of play inside the box. It won't be able to slide the two inches because of the negative cable, is this an issue I should address or is it fine, I figure it never hurts to ask people who know far more than I.

Oh yea, I got 5 years out of the diehard (red top 700 cca battery) and that includes 3 very harsh North Dakota winters (-40f a few nights).
