To replace just the pads you will require a caliper retraction tool. Not the cube style but a proper caliper piston kit including a screw device which can both compress and turn the piston, as well as a special caliper piston adapter to fit the 9-3SS. These can be rented/borrowed from auto parts stores but make sure it contains an adapter with two pins located 24mm on centers. The largest Harbor Freight kit is said to contain the correct size adapter and may be the least costly option for purchase.
I did buy a variety of larger external Torx sockets from Amazon just to have them on hand for futre service needs.
