I recently purchased the a Viair 70P heavy duty portable air compressor to occasionally top up the tire pressure on my 2008 Sportcombi (base model). Several of the Amazon reviews mentioned that its tendency to blow cigarette lighter fuses. The pump draws 14.5 amps. According to owner’s manual, the Sportcombi cig lighters are 20 amp. As long as the car is started when I operate the pump, I think that I should be okay.
Questions:
(1) Does anyone have experience with a portable compressor used on the cigarette lighter?
(2) There seems to be an additional accessory power source in the right side of the trunk (or at least there is an opening with a lid that resembles a cig lighter), but no reference to it in the manual. I haven’t plugged anything into it. Is this a power source?
Thanks
