FWIW, there really is no such thing as 'maximizing value' on a used car trade with 116K on it, especially a Saab.
An '03 Saab with 116K on it is essentially worthless at an auto auction -- yes, it's true -- so, while the dealer may give you $2K to make you feel good about the vehicle you're buying, he'll make up that $2K and more on the purchase of the other vehicle.
When I bought a new 2010 9-3 SS in October of 2010, I inquired about trading my '01 9-3 SE with 176K miles on it. It was in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition (for its age). The dealer said he might be able to give me $500 for it because would bring maybe $600 at an auction if anyone bothered to bid at all. Your car might bring $750 at an auction at this point. Maybe. If someone even bothers to bid on it.
You're best bet to maximize value is to fix the brakes and then sell it to people who want Saabs via the Saabnet classifieds. You might get $2500.
