A new 2011 9^3 Turbo4 WXD here. Our fourth Saab. Purchased 10 days ago from a former Saab dealer in NH. After a lot of trepidation (9^3 or maybe NG9^5?), and also looking at other brands (Int./ext. designs are universally bad, with Passat and '13 Fusion perhaps somewhat an exception. Getting something as basic as heated leather seats, 200+ HP almost always requires going with one of the higher trim levels, while for Saab it's "base". Couldn't live with that drop-lip grille of Audi, and somehow not BMW or MB people we are.) My conclusion was that it's probably impossible to find as simple and cleanly designed driver's console as that of 9^3 without going to unreasonable $$$ extremes. Yes, interior materials, switch stalks could do with some refinement, but so what -- it's nothing like staring at some int. design "horrors" of absurd curves/triangles/chrome and multicolor LEDs, while doing fraction arithmetics in order just to figure out the speed from that overdesigned speedometer...
You can get a 4 yr. 60k mi. warranty for $2000 (from Ally; there are other options as well). I was talked out of it by the dealer. I was also told, that "Saab parts has a fill rate (% of parts ordered that get received) of 90%" (end of Oct.), with 95-96% being normal.
I wouldn't say there is such a TON of new 9-3 here, maybe 15 or so per some of the former dealer. Engine/trans./color combinations will be very limited, unless you are happy with black interior. The stock is not moving fast, if at all. So individual discounts are not hard to negotiate.
I only have driven the new XWD for 100+ mi. so far (we walk to work, so it's only a weekend attraction). Handling is great, but that's expected. Feels a little bit more "solid" than the 2007 9^3 2.0T, that it replaced.
Good luck.
