For conventional batteries -- the add-water kind -- I wouldn't think running it down and then driving the next day and getting it fully charged would kill it in 8 months. This assumes you check the water. If you don't drive far enough to get it fully charged, that would be different. If this is your driving profile and you don't find electrical "leaks" maybe a trickle charger or small solar panel. I assume modern automobile alternators/regulators bring it up pretty quick, but if it's only driving a couple of miles on the weekend, that would be different. My 900 is at a vacation house and I disconnect and charge up and it lasts only a couple of years. With new don't-add-water batteries, they can get overcharged, but this would be a voltage regulator issue. If it's a battery type meant for the car ("top of the line" isn't necessarily universal) I wouldn't expect a modern voltage regulator to be "off" but it should be fairly easy to check charging voltage when the engine is running to see if its too high. There are also batteries with different chemistry that have different voltage limits.
