The problem most of the time is "signal degradation".
Low voltage signals passing through a multitude of male and female crimp connections between gas pedal sensor to ECM to throttle body.
Nearly impossible to catch in the act when it happens maybe once every 6 month to a year or so.
Summer here see a rise of those problems due to under hood temperatures sky rocketing with stop and go traffic and that resistance in electric wires gets worse as hotter it gets.
As a first approach I disconnect pedal sensor connector, ECM and throttle body connectors and apply Stabilant 22 to the female terminals and plug them back in.
That keeps them running for another 6 month to a year to infinity all on a case by case scenario.
Just had to do it on my wife's car due to a throttle body plausibility code and limp home mode scenario. It has been a few thousand miles since then with no new codes or limp home mode.
