It looks like I need a new heat shield for our 2006 9-3 SC. This is the long heat shield (pn 12782089) that sits over the intermediate center muffler, held in place by 6 nuts on studs. My shield tore out at all 6 mounting points, now it sits loose on top of the muffler.
Has anyone replaced this? Can you do it without removing the exhaust system?
It looks like I might be able to drop the exhaust system off the hangers aft of the flex joint and let it drop down at an angle and slide the heat shield out from the back, But I'm not sure how much movement the flex section will allow. I would also be doing this without a lift, putting the back of the car on jack stands. Anyone with experience with this repair?
Thanks!
