I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid the V6. I have a 2008 Turbo-X now with 116k miles. It has been expensive to maintain but 97% of it has been directed to the XWD system. The engine just keeps on keepin' on. It's a hot little monster so things get brittle under the hood, and the two little coolant hoses right over the turbo bake out every year or so, but they're very easy to replace (keep a spare set in your trunk!). People bitch about how they eat coils and plugs, but if you buy the correct coils (Bosch has a certain part number) I have found that they last a long time.
It IS really shoe-horned into the engine compartment, so any incidental work that does end up coming up is a bit more difficult. It's not as DIY-friendly as the 2.0T. But it sounds great, is silky smooth, and pulls like a train.
