This may be late advice as it sounds like you've ordered a new part. But I was having a hard time with my hood release and feared it would stick with the hood closed. I lubricated it and now it works like new. I used Tri-Flo liquid lube on the cable and mechanism at the hood, and also applied it to both pins up on the hood itself. In short, anything that I could get to. Tri-Flo is good stuff, used by bike mechanics. WD-40 would probably work also. Good luck.
