I read this BB regularly and have eeuroparts website as a fav in my browser. Any time anyone posts any failure, I add requisite part to my project list on their eeuroparts site. After 3-4 years I accumulated a "boat load of parts" and pre-emptively had the water pump, both chains, tensioners, alternator, engine tranny mounts, oil pressure sensor, head rebuilt, power steering pump reservoir O ring, coolant hoses, radiator replaced. (I did the fuel pump a couple of years ago - pics in my profile too).
I figured it would be cheaper to have all the work done at the same time, then piece-meal it out. Easier for the mechanic too. Yes, it was $5500 (CDN), not including the cost of the parts I supplied; and recently did a complete subframe rebuild (in my photos); so car drives like new now. I figured it was cheaper to fix the saab, then plonk down $65k for a new car.
