Hello,
Usually if you have a hard start caused by filling the gas it is do to overfilling the tank. This can happen either by trying to top off the fuel or something that is not allowing the back pressure to shut off the pump. When this happens liquid fuel enters the charcoal cannister as opposed to just fuel vapor. This causes overly rich fuel vapor to go to the engine through the evap purge valve at the engine. Being a v6 the purge valve may be faulty but that should set a check engine light. Make sure she is not topping of the fuel. If the charcoal cannister is contaminated with liquid fuel it needs replaced. If the check engine light is on get the code read and see what it says.
If the car needs a purge valve I would leave it to someone that has experience on the V6. It is very easy to break any of the brittle plastic lines located near and attached to the purge valve. It is located on the drivers side on the firewall side of the intake manifold. It used to be a little pricey and you could order a gm version of the same valve for less, but I do not have that part number handy. Maybe a quick search will come up with the part number. Good Luck, Bernie
