My Thule roof box has pre-drilled holes that are off the rack spacing by a few inches. The solution, after 20 minutes with a drill, was new holes in the box. Measure carefully to ensure that the spacing is correct and that the clamps fit through the new holes. I've carried plenty of heavy stuff in the box since, over rough roads, and have had absolutely no troubles.
