Just got this e-mail from my dealer for everyones info....

We are currently in the coldest winter of the last decade. The extreme cold has generated unusual problems. As a valued customer, we want you to be aware of these problems. We will be happy to inspect your 2003 Saab 9-3 at NO CHARGE, and assist you with any repairs if required.

We are noticing that...

Emergency Brakes: are freezing overnight. When the cables freeze it is possible to damage the release handle. The frozen cables or broken handle can cause your brakes to lock up and your car will become immobile. This condition is caused by torn cable boots which can be prevented if inspected regularly.

Belt Pulleys: Cold weather seems to be the straw that breaks the camels back for "Idler Pulleys". When the bearing on the idler pulley breaks, the belt used to drive the power steering and water pump comes off. Inspection for play or noise is a good idea.

Batteries: On the last cold snap, AAA reported 400 calls per hour for dead batteries. Saab's battery tester will ensure that your battery is in good shape.

Wiper Blades: can get torn by ice on the glass. Remember if you purchased your last set of wiper blades within the last year from a Saab dealer, they may be under warranty.

Frozen Washer Fluid washer fluid has a freezing point of -20. Despite this, we have had reports of fluid freezing and causing subsequent damage to the washer system. We have a conditioner available that further lowers the freezing point.

Suspension Noise: Some noises can not be avoided when a car is cold, but we see many that can. We have observed separated strut tower bushings and noisy sway bar bushings. Neither of these result in a safety related issue, but the noise may be defective rather than just noise.
